Zbigniew Jan Czendlik
Dean (Roman Catholic parish Deanery Lanškroun)
Zbigniew Czendlik is a Roman Catholic priest of Polish nationality who has served as the dean of Lanškroun since 1992. He is well-known in the media, particularly for his friendly relationships with many personalities from the fields of culture, show business, and sports.
He has also worked as a moderator, notably on the Czech Radio 2 show Point of View (2015–2024), and moderated the Through the Eye of a Needle series on Czech Television (2011–2022).
He enjoys sports, having previously played football and tennis. Nowadays, he is into golf, and in the winter, he enjoys skiing. He is actively involved in charitable and social projects aimed at supporting seniors and children with disabilities. He is also the patron of a dog shelter.
In October 2016, Zbigniew Czendlik and Markéta Zahradníková published the book The Bed, the Pub, the Church, for which they received the Reader's Award in the 2017 Magnesia Litera competition. In 2018, the Polish translation of the book, God Is Not a Coffee Machine, was released. At the end of 2018, a book containing transcriptions of interviews with several Czech personalities from the Through the Eye of a Needle show, which Zbigniew moderated, was released. The book is titled Through the Eye of a Needle: Zbigniew Czendlik and His Guests. Its second volume was released in 2020. In the autumn of 2019, his co-authored book The Clergy House Cook was published.
In 2021, he starred alongside Bolek Polívka in the role of a priest in the film Gump – The Dog Who Taught People to Live, and in March 2024, its sequel, Gump – We’re a Duo, was released in cinemas. For Czech Television, he also filmed a documentary travel series titled In a Caravan Across Poland, which is set to air in 2024.
